Buffalo Bill Dam Is located six miles west of Cody and has a great visitor center worth the visit and the price of "free". Buffalo Bill Dam was the realization of Colonel William F Cody's dream to irrigate thousands of arid acres with the Shoshone River, providing a future for the town of Cody and the surrounding area.

Originally designed as the tallest dam in the world and completed in 1910, in 1973 it was added to the National register of Historical Place. The visitors center stands 353 feet in elevaton and offers a fantastic view of the Shoshone Canyon.
