Delintment Lake Dam is a high mountain lake remotely located in the pine filled Ochoco Mountains, which was created by damming Delintment River. Delintment Lake is used for recreation purposes, and was built in 1953. It is owned by the Snow Mountain Ranger District. This lake reportedly has great and easy fishing.
Delintment Lake is located off of U.S. Hwy. 20, 48 miles northwest of Burns. There is a paved road access, but you must come in from the southeast near Hines, Oregon. Take County Road 127 off of Hwy 20 a mile south of Hines. The dam is on NF 41 which is also called Delintment Lake Road. Being county roads, and forest service roads, do not expect road signs to have consistent names, so do some research and take notes. These are mostly Forest Service roads, and at high elevations, so don't expect roads to be cleared of snow early in the season.
There are several un paved roads into this dam for those looking for a dual-sport route. You could coming in from the south out of Riley, or from the northwest from Prineville through Post and Paulina.
For a nice break from the cold, or for a cool drink , or gas, check out the Riley Store & Archery. In 2006 we had a dam very near Riley, Oregon, and we first met Dale & Pat Martin of the Riley Store. We had stopped for gas and some hot cocoa. Very nice people that enjoyed visiting with the DamTour riders that dropped in.
