Keno Dam is on the Klamath River just 1½ miles from Keno which is on Hwy 66. Highway 66 is also called the 'Green Springs Highway' and is a delightful twisty highway over the Cascades from Ashland to Keno. The Klamath River meanders slowly for 20 miles from Lake Ewauna to Keno Dam, which was built "with the intent to produce power, but hydropower facilities were never developed."
The town of Keno is 12 miles from Klamath Falls and 49 miles from Ashland. Take PP&L Park Road from Hwy 66 to the dam. PP&L Road is paved about a third of the way to the dam. Access to Keno Dam has only a short stretch of good gravel road, on the east side, that goes through the campground and then splits to a boat ramp in one direction and the dam in the other (as can be seen in the fork photo at right). One can see the dam from there but can ride down to the dam, but no need to. To see the "face of dam" you can walk about 50 yards from the "Historical Marker" about early power generation on the Klamath River.
For dirt and gravel lovers... you might be able to view the dam on its west side by going east of Keno and out Hwy 603/Clover Creek Road to Old Wagon Road.
**Thank you Dan Stombaugh (aka DamDan) ...for scouting, and photos on this dam.
