Mill Pond Dam impounds Outlet Creek, and is located 4.92 miles east of Glenwood on the Glenwood-Goldendale Hwy. This area is known as Glenwood Valley. The small community of Glenwood, is 35 miles north of White Salmon and the Columbia River. The dam is just off the hwy and the very short road into the dam is mostly paved, but with lots of potholes. While I can't seem to find much on the history of this dam, it appears, from its name, the road name, and what is left of a large building foundation, that a lumber mill was the reason for this dam being built.
The roads to, from and around this dam are made for motorcycling. Whether you choose to come in from the south taking alternate hwy 141 out of Underwood and ride through Husum to BZ Corner to take the BZ-Glenwood Hwy, or come in from Lyle through Klickitat, or from the east from Goldendale, you will have a great ride. Views of Mt Adams abound on the many routes to this dam, and wildlife is plentiful. Expect, elk, deer, and even bobcats on your ride.
Special note here... keep your eye out for a planned ride or gathering in the DT Forum and our Facebook page, that may include Mill Pond Dam and a lunch stop at 'The Logs'. We stopped in on New Year's Eve day, and they were closed to decorate for a big party, but they graciously let us come in to see the place and take photos. I told them, I wanted to mention them on our web site and that we may be planning a big lunch here this year. They are looking forward to it. Say hi to Katherine or Carrie if you drop in and mention DamTour.
The Logs is at the junction in BZ Corner for the BZ Glenwood Hwy, and was first established in 1932. It has recently been totally updated and remodeled and I'm told under new management. It is a great place to stop for a bite to eat when in the area, or plan your own meet-up with fellow riders.
