Mompano Dam impounds Beaver Lake(aka Mompano Reservoir), a 58 acre man-made lake. The 30 foot high earth-filled structure was built in the early 1970's by a private developer for ‘fish culture and recreation.’ Its 705 foot crest length intercepts nearly 13 sq miles of the Abernathy Creek drainage basin in Clackamas County, Oregon. The lake forms the central amenity feature of a 469 acre parcel now know as Beaver Lake Estates.
The dam is located south-east of Oregon City about 4 miles from Beavercreek, Oregon on Henrici Road. When we previewed this dam, our ride started from Sandy, Oregon heading out 211 to 224. After Estacada, we headed toward Viola via S. Springwater Road where we picked up Henrici Rd. It turned out to be a very nice ride.
Private property surrounds this dam and lake with lots of "Do Not" signs... so be good dam-bassadors. The road can be busy so be careful where you park. There are a couple of places, one near the spillway and one on the eastside a bit above to safely take your photos.
